Katya Kanke (b.1985, Tolyatti)
Currently lives and works in Hamburg.
Photography and performance based artist working with themes of corporeality, trauma and crisis.
The main question for Katya's work is the question of the impulse to create something in the context of contemporary art. Why one autobiographical story makes art and another does not. The point is the relevance of the story and the question posed, or the void in between. Thus the theme of artistic crisis remains key.
She studied photography and performance in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Brussels. She is currently studying at HfbK, Hamburg.
